On Wednesday, 26th September, the children and staff celebrated European Language Day. We decided to celebrate the culture of Northern Ireland(Norn Iron).A challenge was to dress up as a character from a legend from Northern Ireland; a sporting hero from our country, or simply in the colours of the NorthernIreland flag! The children( and parents) put a lot of thought into their costumes.
After a parade to display the costumes, the children returned to their classes to cook traditional foods:Irish stew, champ and soda bread. We had a great afternoon tasting all the foods.
Various activities and games were played to reinforce the names of our counties and main towns and rivers. We had great fun investigating the meanings of some of our Ulster-Scots words.
Challenge: What is a “cassey?”
