Primary 5, 6 and 7 news

Primary 5,6 and 7 have had a busy term.
Our first highlight was European Language Day, when we celebrated the culture of our own country, Northern Ireland. The children dressed up, either in the colours of the Northern Ireland flag, or as famous characters from our land.

Rachel Lutton brought in her granny Irene and her great granny Ethel to show us how to make traditional Irish soda bread. We had a great afternoon tasting her soda bread with melted butter! Yum!!!

The children dressed up as Finn MacCool,David Healy, Darren Clarke, St. Patrick

and there was even a P.6 girl dressed as a “good oul Ulster fry.”

One of our P.6 dads gave our class a present of some hockey sticks.

The good weather at the beginning of the term enabled the boys and girls of P.5,6 and 7 to practice their “dribbling” and other hockey skills.

New computers were installed at the beginning of the term. We use these every day to search the internet to help with research and to improve our maths and writing skills.

Library time continues on a Monday morning when the boys and girls choose a new “extra reading book” from our wide selection of fiction and non-fiction books.

As usual this is a busy time for our P.7 boys and girls! Just look at the concentration on these faces!!!

European Day

On Wednesday, 26th September, the children and staff celebrated European Language Day. We decided to celebrate the culture of Northern Ireland(Norn Iron).A challenge was to dress up as a character from a legend from Northern Ireland; a sporting hero from our country, or simply in the colours of the Northern Ireland flag! The children( and parents) put a lot of thought into their costumes.

After a parade to display the costumes, the children returned to their classes to cook traditional foods:Irish stew, champ and soda bread. We had a great afternoon tasting all the foods.

Various activities and games were played to reinforce the names of our counties and main towns and rivers. We had great fun investigating the meanings of some of our Ulster-Scots words.
