			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>This year 7 P1 children started and joined a class with P2 and P3, making 18 in total.  The topics studied have been ‘Weather’ and ‘The Rescue Services’.  In line with the Revised Curriculum a great deal of learning took place through structured play, (practical activities to enhance learning by encouraging creative thinking and social skills which the children understand to be playing).</p>

<p>Numeracy and literacy play a large part in the curriculum and the children have already learnt a number of different phonics to help them with their reading and writing.  Much of this learning is done through practical activities and ICT.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>During December 2007 the P1 and P2 children studied the topic of ‘Myself’.  During this topic the children discovered just how special they were as they compared themselves to others and found their similarities and differences.  The children also discussed how they had changed in looks and also in what they were able to do since they were babies.  As part of the topic Ethan’s (a P2 child) Mum visited the class with his two younger brothers so that could have fist hand experience of a baby and toddler.</p>

<p>The children also talked about how to look after themselves and turned the house corner into a doctor’s surgery.</p>

<p>helped make it more relevant to the children. Special days have also included European Day, which focussed on Northern Ireland.</p>
<p>During November the children will study the topic ‘Myself’. Dates of special events during this topic will be:</p>
<p>Thursday 29th November at 9:30am – The children will visit The Country Playgroup to watch a puppet show all about looking after themselves. Parent volunteers to help transport would be very much appreciated.</p>
<p>Monday 3rd December - A baby and toddler will visit the class to help children think about how they change as they grow.</p>
<p>Other dates relevant to P1/P2:</p>
<p>Thursday 29th December 2:00-3:00pm - Art workshop starts</p>
<p>Saturday 1st December 1:00-3:00pm - PTA craft Fair. Santa will make a special appearance.</p>
<p>Monday 3rd December 2:30pm - Presentation of ‘Once upon a Time’ book at Antrim Civic Centre. Parents are strongly encouraged to support the school by attending this event. Parent volunteers to help transport would be very much appreciated.</p>
<p>Thursday 6th December 7:30pm - Parents’ meeting. The topic this month will be the place The Arts holds in the curriculum.</p>
<p>Wednesday 12th December - Christmas dinner</p>
<p>Thursday 13th December Visit to pantomime, children should be collected from school at 12:30pm.</p>
<p>Tuesday 18th December 9:15-12:00 noon volunteers to help transport would be very much appreciated.- Christmas Celebration practice. Children should be left at Kells Presbyterian Church Hall at 9:15am and should be picked up at 12:00 noon.</p>
<p>Wednesday 19th December - Christmas Celebration. Children should be at Kells Presbyterian Church Hall for 9:00am. Parents, grandparents and friends are all very welcome. Celebration starts at 9:30am.</p>
<p>Thursday 20th December 1:30-3:00pm - Christmas Party. This will be held from 1:30-3:00pm. Children are encouraged to stay to end as Santa will make a special appearance. No uniforms are required.</p>
<p>Friday 21st December 10:30-12:00 noon - Carol singing at Junction 1. All the children will sing from 11:00-12:00 at Junction 1. Parent volunteers to help transport would be very much appreciated and will leave school at 10:30am. Please ensure that your child is collected at Junction 1 at 12:00noon.</p>
<p>Monday 7th January 9:15am - School Winter term starts.</p>
